ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ, ਬੈਂਤਮਾਰ ਗੰਗੌਰ ਮੇਲਾ, 16 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ, ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਰੀਤ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਜੋਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। 16 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ, ਔਰਤਾਂ ਢੀਂਗਾ ਗਵਾਰ ਜਾਂ ਬੈਂਤਮਾਰ ਗੰਗੌਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਟਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੜਕਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਕਰਨਗੀਆਂ। ਜੋਧਪੁਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਇੱਕੋ-ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਢੀਂਗਾ ਗਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਂਤਮਾਰ ਗੰਗੌਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਮਰਦ ਇਸ ਮਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ

ਇਸ ਬੈਂਤਮਾਰ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਭੇਸ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਸੜਕਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਨਿਕਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਹਰ ਮਰਦ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਭੱਜਦਾ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਰਦ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਅਣਜਾਣ, ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਹਰਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ।

ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਵਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰੀਏ ਸੁਨਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਗਵਾਰ ਦੀ, ਤਾਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਗਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ 4 ਕਿਲੋਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸੋਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ 1 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਵੀ ਗਵਾਰ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।


Jodhpur, the second largest district in Rajasthan, is also known as the cultural capital of the state, as its festivals and celebrations are exemplary. One of the major events is the Baitamar Gangaur Mela, which will be held on April 16th in the inner city. On the night of April 16th, the women will take over the city, continuing an ancient tradition with great enthusiasm. During this time, women will take to the streets, performing a ritual known as Dhinga Gawar or Baitamar Gangaur, where they playfully strike men with sticks, symbolizing the festivities and social customs.

This unique festival is celebrated only in Jodhpur, where women have the tradition of striking men with sticks. Historically, it is said that during old times, the sister-in-law would lovingly beat her brother-in-law and other bachelors with a stick, jokingly telling them that they were still unmarried and that the wedding talks were in progress. The women would then tease them playfully, indicating that the marriage would soon take place.

The most beautiful aspect of this festival is that no man minds being struck by the women, whether they know them or not. During the Baitamar Mela, when women disguise themselves and take to the streets, they will strike any man they come across. Every man seen in their path tries to escape the playful blows of the women.

In the city, various Gawars (decorated platforms) are set up and especially adorned for the occasion. The most exquisite among them is in the area of jewelers, where the Gawar is decorated with over 4 kilograms of gold, worth more than 1 crore rupees. The Gawars are decorated with great care and are displayed at several locations in the city, making the festival a spectacular event. 

Jodhpur is the only city in India where such a unique and lively tradition is celebrated, symbolizing the vibrant culture and spirit of Rajasthan.
